FOUR INTERCHANGES FOR KSI
President
Akufo-Addo is scheduled to cut sod for work to start on the Kumasi Road
Facelift Project this month to substantially improve on the road network of the
metropolis.
Inherent in the Project are four interchanges earmarked for
construction at the Anloga Junction, Airport Roundabout, Suame Roundabout and
the Santasi Roundabout to ease the heavy vehicular traffic popular with those
intersections.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, made this
known in Kumasi at the first Meeting of the Regional Coordinating Council.
The
Meeting was attended by Heads of decentralized state agencies and Departments,
Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and their respective
Presiding Members from all the old 30 MMDAs with the Regional Minister and
Regional Coordinating Director as the Chairman and Secretary respectively.
A
Magistrate, Mr. Peter Oppong Boahene used the occasion to lead newly elected
Presiding Members to swear the Official Oath, Oath of Allegiance and the Oath
of a Member.
The Regional Minister gave a report of happenings within the
region in the last one year touching on issues such as agricultural production,
the free secondary education policy, revenue generation performances of the
MMDAs, health, environment and sanitation and the creation of 13 new MMDAs.
On
the security situation, Mr. Osei Mensah noted that, despite recent breaches of
the peace architecture in the region resulting the loss of lives at Ahwiaa in
the Kwabre East Municipality and Foase in the Atwima Kwanwoma district, there
is relative peace in the region.
On the implementation of the government’s
flagship programme of free secondary education, the Regional Minister said
government has learnt useful lessons from the teething challenges and that
strategies have been mapped out to improve it as schools are getting ready to
enroll the second batch of student beneficiaries of the policy.
