NHIA TO LAUNCH NATION-WIDE MOBILE MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL DEC. 19
The
National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA will on the 19th of next
month officially launch its Mobile Membership Renewal Service towards easing
difficulties existing subscribers go through in renewing their membership.
The
innovation is also part of strategies adopted by the NHIA towards achieving its
target of roping in the Health Insurance Scheme every Ghanaian citizen or legal
resident by 2020 to propel Ghana towards meeting the United Nations Universal
Health Coverage by all member states by the year 2030.
A Deputy Director of
Corporate Affairs of the NHIA, Oswald Essuah-Mensah, made this known in Kumasi
at a day’s engagement of journalists, staff of the Information Services
Department, representatives of the Ghana Trades Union and the National
Commission for Civic Education to brief them on the Mobile Membership Renewal
service and other digital initiatives to strengthen the National Health
Insurance Scheme.
The NHIA Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs explained that,
following a very successful piloting of the electronic renewal initiative at
Asuogyaman in the Eastern region and West Mamprusi in the Upper East region
last year, the NHIA considers it imperative to replicate the service across the
country to enable subscribers to renew their membership from any geographical
location anywhere in the country by removing the barriers that hinder them from
promptly updating their membership.
Mr. Essuah-Mensah noted also, all the three
key players in the running of the NHIS, namely the NHIA, Service Operators and
Subscribers stand to enjoy enormous benefits, while helping, not only to
sustain, but also to improve upon the operations and revenue generations of the
Authority.
For the subscribers in particular, Mr. Essuah-Mensah said, they will
no longer travel long distances or spend much money or join long queues which
in most cases, demoralize them from renewing their membership. All they need to
do now is to dial STAR Eight-Four-Two STAR One-Zero Hash (*842*10#) to access
the service without any cost.
