'EXONERATION OF CRIMINAL TAG ENOUGH FOR US', ALIDU AND CO

Some interested parties in the killing of seven men in the Amansie West district of the Ashanti region in July this year have expressed satisfaction with the outcome of investigations into circumstances of the incident particularly by exonerating all the victims of involving themselves in criminal activities contrary to claims by the Ashanti regional Police Command.

Yesterday, Monday Nov. 19,  a government’s statement said after a careful study of the Committee’s Report,  the seven victims of the shooting incident were not armed robbers, neither did they engage the police in an exchange of fire.

Speaking to the Ashanti Today in Kumasi in reaction to the report, the Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Alidu Seidu commended government for the steps it has taken so far that have culminated in the exoneration of the victims, saying that, 'the clearance itself is enough satisfaction and a big relief to the bereaved families and the youth in the Asawase community' where the deceased lived.

Mr. Alidu Seidu expressed satisfaction that government had to inform the relatives, opinion leaders of the Zongo community and the Regional Chief Imam of the report hours before the public release of the statement saying that, the gesture was a show of respect to all the interested parties.

On his part, the Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Harun Moomin, also expressed satisfaction with the report from the investigative Committee. He was satisfied also with the indictment of some police personnel in connection with the incident but was quick to exonerate the Regional Police Commander, DCoP Kwasi Mensah Duku for any wrong doing since, according to him,  'the commander only acted upon information he received from the team of policeman detailed to protect life and property.'

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, however appealed to the media and the public to be circumspect about how they comment about the issue in order not to dampen morale of the Police personnel in their quest to maintain law, order, security and safety for law abiding people to go about their daily activities.

Meanwhile, a visit to the Asawase community by Ashanti Today showed a relative peace and calmness among the residents as everyone goes about their normal duties.
