METHODIST BISHOP INDUCTS FIVE LAY CHAIRMEN
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church,
The Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, has inducted five Diocesan Lay
Chairmen into Office at the Calvary Methodist Church, in Kumasi.
They are
Emmanuel Bedai, Tarkwa Diocese, Moses Yirenkyi Otchere, Wenchi Diocese,
Ruben Atsu Kugblenu, Somanya Diocese, Edwin Sarpong-Boakye Goaso
Diocese, and Samuel Ebenezer Kotcha-Brew, Fosu Diocese.
All the five
Chairmen were elected in fulfilment of the constitution of the
church. They are to serve for three years. Most Rev. Dr. Boafo reminded them
that they have taken a great but delicate responsibility and
therefore must see it as a privilege and an opportunity which must be used
in fulfilment of the will of God.
He explained that the rationale behind
the Lay Movement Council within the Methodist Church is to facilitate
partnership and collaboration between the laity and the clergy to advance the
kingdom of God.
On the duties of the Diocesan Chairmen, Most Rev. Dr. Boafo
indicated that, they shall assist the Diocesan Bishop in his leadership to the
church in addition to any duties that may be assigned to them.
They shall also
preside over the diocesan Lay Movement Council and its executive meetings. Most
Reverend Dr Boafo, encouraged them to be leaders who have listening ears to
bring to bear the purpose of God for the church through their service.
He
emphasized that they are not in competition with the Clergy but to strengthen
the partnership and collaboration between the laity and the clergy to bring
about church growth. The new elected Lay Chairmen were each presented with a
bible and the Church constitution.
