TWO ARRESTED IN OKESS MURDER CASE

Police in the Ashanti region have arrested two persons in connection with the murder
of a student of the Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School. The deceased.

Godfred Arthur, 17, who is a final year Arts student was scheduled to write the
Integrated Science Paper as his final Paper today in the ongoing West Africa
Secondary Schools Certificate Examination, WASSCE, at the OKESS Exam Centre in
the Tafo Municipality.

The late Master Godfred Arthur aged 17 is an Arts student of the Osei Kyeretwie
Senior High School, OKESS, in the Tafo Municipality.

The final year boarding student was one of the many candidates presented by OKESS
for this year’s WASSCE.

He was preparing to write his final Paper in the exam this
morning and was therefore leaving his boarding house for private study in the
classroom last night when he was attacked by suspected robbers in the corridor of the
boarding house.

Pieces of information gathered by GBC24 indicate that the suspected robbers
invaded the OKESS’ premises upon an invitation by an insider accomplice while
mobile phones were being charged.

The deceased was said to have been stabbed by
one of the attackers about twice in neck using a pair of scissors causing him to bleed
profusely. Ashanti Today's reliable sources at the school noted that, Master Arthur was
met by the assailants while they were attempting to run away when an alarm was
raised about their invasion at the school and mistaken for people who were responding
to the distress call to action.

Unfortunately, no vehicle said to be available at the school at the time of the incident
was ready to convey him to the hospital for emergency care compelling some of his
friends to adopt a tricycle popularly known as 'Aboboyaa' and belonging to an
Electrician of the school to send him to the Trinity Hospital at Pankrono, an adjourning
community but he could not survive.

Following news of the incident, agitated parents and guardians rushed to find out more
about the matter but the main entrance was the farthest they could go following a
closure of the gates to all visitors.

As at 10 am today, an appreciable number of such
parents and guardians were still waiting to know about the welfare of their wards.

They appeared highly agitated and disturbed due to the lack of information from the
authorities.

An Aunt of the deceased, Madam Asana Mohammed, told Ashanti Today that as at the
time our News crew arrived at the school, the school’s authorities had not told the
family about where the child had been sent.

The Board Chairman, Mr. Owusu Ansah and the Chief of Tafo,
Nana Agyen Frempong,  calmed the nerves of the parents and guardians.

Also, swiftly responding to the situation were the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief
Executive,  Osei Assibey Antwi, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education,
Mrs. Mary Owusu Achiaw, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCoP
Anim among other influential personalities to learn at first hand, the real situation
and to help create the required congenial atmosphere for school activities to take
place.

These authorities first met with the parents and OKESS authorities in finding
the way forward after the incident behind closed doors.

Later, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi briefed the media about the situation and step being
adopted to ensure tranquility in the school.

The authorities later had brief but separate interactions with the continuing students
during which the students were urged to accept the incident as one of the mysteries
of life and remain calm.

They were prayed for by the school’s Chaplain.

It was during one such interaction sessions that the WASSCE candidates finished with
the Integrated Science Paper One wearing red bands in solidarity with their slain
colleague.

The two arrested suspects are in police custody helping with police investigations into
the matter.

Meanwhile, remains of Master Arthur have been deposited the Komfo
Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue pending police investigations.
