ASHANTI RCC, MUNTAKA SUPPORT MUSLIMS
The
Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly,
KMA, have jointly donated a quantity of food items valued at thousands of Ghana
Cedis to support Muslims in Kumasi during the month of Ramadan.
The donation
also involved an amount of cash to be disbursed among various identifiable
groups within the Muslims community.
The items were made up of 100 bags of
rice, 50 bags of sugar, 50 boxes of cooking oil, boxes of tea bags, cartons of
milk and Milo.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Osei Assibey-Antwi, who
made the presentation on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah,
explained that the month of Ramadan remains a very important pillar in Islam.
It is during this month that all committed Muslims deny themselves of food and
drinks while re-dedicating themselves to prayers.
Mr. -Assibey-Antwi urged the
leadership of the Muslims Community to use the period to intercede for national
unity, peace and development devoid of tribalism and religious polarization. He
asked also for divine protection and direction for the government and the
President in particular to fulfill his campaign promises to Ghanaians.
The Kumasi
Metropolitan Chief Executive enumerated the implementation of the free senior
high school among other policies as efforts by the government to keep to his
promises.
Mr. Assibey-Antwi entreated residents of Kumasi to ensure personal
and environmental cleanliness at this time when the major rainy season has set
in in order to avoid any disaster from flooding that could result from heavy
rains.
The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Harun Mumin lauded some
government functionaries for being hardworking and urged them to keep up the
momentum.
He reminded the President of the numerous promises he made to
Ghanaians during the electioneering and therefore asked him to keep to those
pledges.
In a related development, the MP for Asawase, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak
Muntaka, who is also the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, donated 200 bags of
cement to support the tiling of the entire compound of the Kumasi Central
Mosque.
