NEW POLIO VACCINE OUT ON FRIDAY

The Ghana Heath Service is to introduce a new vaccine into the routine immunization throughout the country at every health facility on the first of next month.   The new vaccine is Inactivated Polio Vaccine, IPV, which is to be given to every child for extra protection.  At a media briefing in Kumasi, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services in charge of Public Health, Dr. Kwasi Yeboah-Awudzi explained that the IPV is an injection which will be administered on the right thigh of the child at 14 weeks after birth.  This will be alongside the Oral Polio Vaccine, Pentax.  He indicated that IP Vaccination is a critical step towards achieving a lasting polio-free country.   Dr. Yeboah-Awudzi said the vaccine is also safe and effective whether given alone or in combination with other vaccines, adding that it is being used in over 60 countries worldwide.  According to Dr. Yeboah-Awudzi, some children may react mildly to the vaccine. GOV'T.-RELIGIOUS BODIES NEGOTIATE HANDING OVER OF MISSION SCHOOLS

Government is in talks with the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference and other religious groups in the country for a possible signing of an Agreement for the eventual handing over of mission schools to the religious organizations for management and control.  The Association of Catholic Teachers, ACT, a faith-based teachers’ organization, which made this known in a Statement released at the weekend, has therefore pledged its full support for the negotiation and suggested that in the interim, a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, be entered into by the parties ahead of the final handing over and taking over Agreement.  The Statement was released at the end of the 3 rd National Coordinating Meeting of the Association held on the theme: “A Call to Leadership”, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese of the Catholic Church.  It was jointly signed by the National Coordinator, William Boakye Baafi, and the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocesan Secretary of ACT

APPIAH-MINKAH GIVEN STATE BURIAL

GNCLBLO ACCEPTS GHC1M LOTO OPERATING LICENSE FEE

The Ghana National Chamber of Licensed Banker to Banker Lotto Operators and Agents has accepted the One million Ghana Cedi License Fee charged on Private Lotto Operators by the National Lottery Authority Board.  The Executive Chairman of the Chamber, Frank Adjei, who made this known at a press conference in Kumasi, announced that operators who cannot pay their license fee could join the Chamber to work together.  He commended the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Kofi Osei-Ameyaw for taking pragmatic steps to register and license the Operators, Agents and Writers of Banker to Banker Lottery under the Public-Private Partnership in accordance with the National Lotto Act of 2006, Acts 722.  Mr. Adjei assured that the Chamber is ready to partner with the National Lottery Authority and succeeding governments to create jobs and maximize revenue for socio-economic development.  On the other hand, the Chamber has raised concerns about some Nigerians, Chinese

NYA TRAINS YOUTH IN DIGITAL MARKETING

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Emmanuel Asigri has cautioned the youth who get enrolled on the Authority's Digital Marketing training programme to avoid acts that can affect and jeopardize the sustainability of the programme.  He gave the caution at the graduating ceremony of the first batch of 355 trainees from the Ashanti region in the Youth Training in Digital Marketing programme at Ahinsan in the Asokwa municipality of the Ashanti region.  The Youth-In-Online Digital Marketing Entrepreneurship programme is aimed at equipping the youth with skills to make them self-employed.  Each of the 10 regions have been given an average slot of 300 youths aged between 18 and 35 years with a basic appreciation of Internet and social media, to be trained under the programme for a period of three months. DVLA, EPA PARTNER TO CURB VEHICULAR EMISSION

  The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA, is in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, to curtail vehicular emission into the atmosphere to address the problem of environmental pollution in the country.  The collaboration focuses on gathering data about the seriousness of the problem after which the EPA will set the benchmark for the permissible emission levels for any vehicle presented for certification by the DVLA for the issuance of road worthy certificate.  The Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Akwasi Agyemang Busia, disclosed this in Kumasi.  He was addressing workers of the Authority at the Kumasi office as part of a working tour of members of the company’s Board of Directors.  They had already visited the offices at Obuasi, Bekwai, Mampong, Agona and Offinso to learn at first hand, the working environment there. ASHANTI RCC, MUNTAKA SUPPORT MUSLIMS

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, have jointly donated a quantity of food items valued at thousands of Ghana Cedis to support Muslims in Kumasi during the month of Ramadan.  The donation also involved an amount of cash to be disbursed among various identifiable groups within the Muslims community.  The items were made up of 100 bags of rice, 50 bags of sugar, 50 boxes of cooking oil, boxes of tea bags, cartons of milk and Milo.  The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Osei Assibey-Antwi, who made the presentation on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, explained that the month of Ramadan remains a very important pillar in Islam.  It is during this month that all committed Muslims deny themselves of food and drinks while re-dedicating themselves to prayers.  Mr. -Assibey-Antwi urged the leadership of the Muslims Community to use the period to intercede for national unity, peace and developme

TEARS FLOW FOR SLAINED OKESS' FINAL YR STUDENT AT MEMORIAL SERVICE

It was all tears, wailing and lamentation as a memorial service has been held at the Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School at Tafo in the Ashanti region in honour of the late Master Godfred Arthur, the final year student who was murdered by intruders to the school last week.  Among patrons of the Memorial Service were the Deputy Minister in charge of Pre-Tertiary Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum and relatives of the late student. The Victim Seventeen year old Master Godfred Kobina Arthur, was admitted to the Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School at Old Tafo in the Tafo Municipality of Ashanti in November 2015 where he was pursuing General Arts.  He met his untimely death on Wednesday, the 9 th of this month. NINTING GETS RELIEF AT LONG LAST

TWO ARRESTED IN OKESS MURDER CASE

Police in the Ashanti region have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a student of the Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School. The deceased.  Godfred  Arthur, 17, who is a final year Arts student was scheduled to write the Integrated Science Paper as his final Paper today in the ongoing West Africa Secondary Schools Certificate Examination, WASSCE, at the OKESS Exam Centre in the Tafo Municipality.
