TRADE/INDUSTRY MINISTER VISITS BOANKRA PORT

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah says government will not let tax payers’ money spent to build permanent offices for the Boankra Inland Port go waste.

Therefore, government will take measures to protect the edifice from deterioration. The Port could provide about 200 direct jobs when it begins full operation.

The Trade Minister gave the assurance in an interview with journalists during a familiarization tour of the Boankra Inland Port as part of his four-day working visit to the Ashanti region.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah observed that though the building itself is in good state, because it is not being occupied, it is developing leakages as a result of rains which is also destroying the paintings on the wall.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah visited also the premises of some industries within the Kumasi metropolis such as Royal Foam, Gyamfuah Ababio Investments Limited and the Logs and Lumber Limited, popularly called LLL.

During the visit, it came to light that the erratic power supply has been one of the major common production challenges facing the companies resulting in low production.
