CHIEF FIRE OFFICER STARTS ASHANTI TOUR
The Chief Fire Officer, Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie has given the Ashanti Regional Fire Officer, Semekor Fiadzo three months ultimatum to devise strategies to reduce fire outbreaks in the region.
According
to Dr. Brown Gaisie, Ashanti region seems to have recorded more fire outbreaks
than Accra in recent times and has described the situation as a serious concern.
He made this known during a courtesy call on the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief
Executive, Kojo Bonsu in Kumasi.
The courtesy call was at the start of a four
day official tour of the Ashanti Region. Dr. Brown Gaisie is in the region to
visit the various fire service stations to find out their preparedness to
efficiently deal with fire situations.
The Chief Fire Officer used the
opportunity to commend the KMA for supporting the Fire Service any time they
fall on them for assistance.
He announced that by July this year, the Service
will take delivery of some state-of-the-art fire tenders from India and assured
the Kumasi Mayor that during the distribution, Ashanti region will not be left
out.
The Mayor, Kojo Bonsu re-echoed the cordial partnership between the KMA and
the Fire Service.
He said it is in this respect that the Kumasi Fire Station close
to the offices of the KMA would soon be upgraded to befit the status of a metropolitan
fire station.
As part of his tour in the region, Dr. Brown Gaisie will cut a sod for commencement
of the construction of a Command and Staff College for the Ghana National Fire
Service at Ejura, which will be the first of its kind in West Africa.
The Chief Fire Officer will visit some fire
stations in the region to know their fire prevention and preparedness,
especially as this year is an election year.
Again, his tour will witness the inauguration of projects at Kyirapatre and
Breman both in Kumasi.
