KMA INTENSIFIES REVENUE COLLECTION

As part of efforts to block loopholes in revenue generation, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, in collaboration with Fidelity Bank, has launched an integrated revenue management and collection system also called the Point-Of-Sales device.

The device will capture details of all traders within the Metropolis such as their names, mobile phone numbers and Date of Birth. The use of the device will begin to operate from Wednesday 22nd of this month, starting at the Kumasi Central Market.

Launching the device at the Kumasi Central Market, the Metro Chief Executive, Osei Assibey-Antwi, said the use of the device will enhance proper revenue collection by ensuring all revenue collected is accounted for, and also ensure better record keeping.

Again, it will ensure enough money is sourced to maintain the markets and manage challenges in the various markets such as fire outbreaks, floods, insanitary conditions and insecurity.

Mr. Assibey-Antwi warned the revenue collectors that there will be no compromises and anyone caught going contrary to regulations on revenue collection will be held accountable. He mentioned instances where fake receipts are issued by revenue collectors, saying it is high time the KMA blocked all loopholes in revenue collection.

The Kumasi Mayor assured the revenue collectors that no one will lose their jobs in the wake of the introduction of the revenue collection devices and admonished them to quickly learn how to use the devices.

The Revenue Officer of KMA, David Agyei explained that the Assembly is modifying its revenue collection approach by going through the use of technology to ensure revenue collected are properly accounted for. The device, he noted, will reduce human interference and further reduce cost of revenue collection.

A representative of Fidelity Bank demonstrated the use of the device to the revenue collectors, representatives of the various sections of the Central Market and staff of KMA.
