11 NEW MDCEs INDUCTED

Eleven out of the 13 persons recently nominated by President Akufo-Addo as Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Ashanti region have been inducted after a swearing-in ceremony at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi. The 11 are the nominees who have been confirmed by their respective Municipal and District Assemblies, while the remaining two were rejected by their Assemblies.

Those sworn-in are Fred Owusu, for Tafo, Andrew Adu Boahene, Adansi Asokwa, Akwanuasah Gyimah, Asokwa, Dr. John Osei Bobie Ansah, Suame and Maurice Jones Woode for the Akrofuom district. The others are Gloria Temmah Gambrah, Oforikrom, Nii Lartey Olienu, Amansie West, Rebecca Yeboah, Atwima Nwabiagya North, Kwadwo Ansah-Sem, Juaben and Patrick Adusei for Ahafo Ano South West.

The President’s nominee for Kwadaso, Richard Agyenim Boateng, however is expected to be voted upon for the second time following his inability to secure the minimum two-thirds at the first voting. On his part, Christian Adu-Poku of the Afigya Kwabre South District was rejected outright by the Assembly Members.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, led the 11 confirmed MDCEs to swear the Official Oath, Oath of Secrecy and Oath of Allegiance. Mr. Osei-Mensah told the new MDCEs that, they are Chairmen of their District Security Committees and supervisors of the various decentralized departments and agencies with a charge to ensure greater efficiency and productivity within those agencies. They must as well take immediate steps to ensure improved security, revenue generation, judicious use of public funds and accountability at all levels.

Mr. Osei-Mensah urged the MDCEs to closely monitor government’s flagship programmes like the Free Senior High School, One District One Factory and the Planting for Food and Jobs for their successful implementation.

On behalf of his colleagues, the Suame Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. John Osei Bobbie Ansah, thanked President Akufo-Addo for reposing in them confidence and trust to represent him at the district level. He assured that they will work hard to justify the trust and confidence towards the realization of the development vision of the President.
