SOS KSI VILLAGE GETS GHC 485, 000 SOCIAL CENTRE
A multi-purpose social
centre constructed at a cost of 485 thousand Ghana Cedis for the Kumasi SOS
Village has been inaugurated at Asokore Mampong in the Ashanti region.
It is a
donation by some corporate entities to help create a congenial learning and
social environment for both the children and staff of the Village.
The centre
has also a large auditorium for social activities, offices, a server room among
other facilities to serve both administrative and social purposes. It took 18
months for the project to be completed.
The Programmes Director of SOS Ghana,
Alexander Mar Kekula said the Asokore Mampong Village is one of the four subsidiaries
of SOS Ghana which was established six years ago with only seven children.
Today, it has 116 children who are enrolled from pre-school through primary to
junior high school level while three others have already graduated into senior
high school.
He said SOS seeks to provide a second opportunity for underprivileged
children to make it in life.
The Asokore Mamponghene Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah
urged all and sundry to collaborate and support the Asokore Mampong SOS to
enable the Village achieve its mission of providing an opportunity for socially
disadvantaged children to realize their potential in life.
The Executive
Director of Enterprise Life Insurance, Mrs. Jaqueline Benyen, disclosed that a
UN report suggests that Ghana currently has about one million orphaned children
who also need the support of society to develop.
It is in appreciation of the
situation that her company in partnership with Sanlam of South Africa built the
social centre.
Mrs. Benyen explained that the center has been christened “Advantage
Hall” to spur the children on to achieve their dreams in life.
