MORE THAN 12, 000 DECEASED PERSONS DELETED FROM ASHANTI REGISTER

A total of 12 thousand, 415 names of deceased voters on the Electoral Roll in the Ashanti region were removed during the 21-day Exhibition of the Voters Register.

Similarly, the inclusion of one thousand, 114 persons on the Register are being objected to, in the region which the Courts are currently hearing to determine whether or not to order deletion or retention of those names on the Register.

A Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, Lawrence Sarpong made this known to Ashanti Today in Kumasi.

He disclosed also that one million, 691 thousand, 911 registrants turned out to verify their details on the Voters Register during the exhibition exercise.

The figure represents about 58 per cent of the two million, 884 thousand, 228 persons who are on the Register.

Mr. Sarpong said the Subin District in Kumasi had the highest objection figure of 515 with Offinso having the least number of 14 similar cases.

He said the objections were in three categories.

These are non-citizens, non-residents in the electoral areas and suspected minors.

According to Mr. Sarpong the cases are before the Magistrate Courts where those who are objecting to certain persons’ inclusion to prove their cases.

This will enable the Courts to direct the EC what to do before the Magistrate will certify the Voters’ Register as the final document for the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
