STOP BICKERING, ANTAGONISM- ASIEDU NKETIAH TO NDC
The
General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Johnson
Asiedu Nketiah, has cautioned members, particularly leaders of the party
against antagonism and bickering amongst themselves, especially in the Ashanti
region.
According to him, one other dangerous tendency that should be avoided
at any cost must be discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, tribalism or
physical or personal deformities since such attitudes put asunder rather than
unite people for which the party could be the ultimate loser, should such
attitudes be encouraged within the rank and file.
The General Secretary gave
the warning when he addressed participants at the just-ended Ashanti Regional
Delegates Conference of the party during which a new batch of Executives were
chosen to run the party in the next four years. Mr. Asiedu Nketiah noted that,
research has proven that the world over, people who believe to be in the
minority and discriminated usually are more receptive to groups and individuals
who are welcoming rather than discriminatory.
He entreated the new Regional
Leadership of the party to work hard to unite everybody, particularly losers in
the various contests so as to forge a stronger front to propel the NDC towards
victory in the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The General
Secretary emphasized the fact that, the Ashanti region has over the years, been
a major determiner in the national electoral fortunes of the NDC saying that,
the region has since 1992 remained among the four regions with the highest vote
tallies for the party.
He said the fewer Parliamentary seats won by the party
should not be yardstick to measure the NDC’s performance in the region, but the
total votes won in the Presidential elections. Therefore, both the winners and
losers must put the elections behind and come together and work hard to advance
the interest of the party in the region.
Present at the Conference were some
prominent members including one of a National Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Betty
Mould-Iddrisu, Deputy National Communications Officer, Anthony Kwaku Boahene as
well as former appointees of the John Mahama government.
