PRIVATE ENTERPRISES FEDERATION LAUNCHES DISTRICT BUSINESS COUNCIL CONCEPTS
Government
has again disbursed start-up capital ranging from 10 thousand to 100 thousand
Ghana Cedis to a total of one thousand, 350 Ghanaian businesses. The beneficiaries
were chosen from seven thousand applicants through the private incubation hubs
across the country.
The Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and
Innovation Plan, NEIP, John Kumah, made this known at Asante Mampong at the
launch of the District Business Council concept. At the launch was also the
outdooring of the Councilors for Asante Mampong and Ejura in the Ashanti region
as well as Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region.
The District Business Council is
an initiative of the Private Enterprises Federation to among other objectives,
lobby for reforms on socio-economic issues within the respective administrative
localities and provide linkages for communication and information sharing and
advocacy among trade and business associations as well as individuals
businesses.
Mr. Kumah expressed confidence in the private sector to partner
government in its jobs creation agenda towards improvement of the
socio-economic circumstances. He assured also that government is creating the
required conducive environment through the formulation of policies for the private
sector to grow.
The Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Thomas Appiah Kubi,
disclosed that the Assembly has budgeted an amount of more than 350 thousand
Ghana Cedis to support 650 youth in the municipality in apprenticeship training.
This is aimed at equipping the beneficiaries with employable skills to be
economically independent and productive.
The Chief Executive Officer of the
Private Enterprises Foundation, Nana Osei Bonsu, explained that the District
Business Council concept seeks also to build the economic capacity of rural
dwellers to take advantage of the many economic opportunities at their disposal
to create wealth so as to curb the rural-urban migration phenomenon. He noted
that so far, since the piloting of the concept, about 500 small scale
businesses at Asante Mampong and 300 in Techiman have shown interest in working
with the Councils to grow.
