ADDAI CUTLASS HONOURED BY PRESBY CHURCH
The Ntribuoho Presbyterian Church under the Asante Presbytery has been officially named Paul Addai Memorial Congregation, after the late Kwadwo Addai, a renowned Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist, popularly called Addai Cutlass.
This is the first time the General
Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has accepted a proposal
for the naming of one of its congregations after a Ghanaian indigene.
The
initiative is to encourage members of the church not to relent in their efforts
in contributing their quota towards the development of the local Presbyterian congregations.
The Asante Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Reverend
Dr. Kofi Amfo Akonnor performed the dedication and naming of the chapel.
The
Minister-in-charge of the Ntribuoho Presbyterian Church, now named Paul Addai
Memorial Congregation, Rev. Paul Owusu Badu in his submission said though Mr.
Addai was not a Presbyterian, he had the welfare of the Christian community at
heart, more especially Presbyterians at Ntribuoho.
This he demonstrated by
purchasing a piece of land and building a chapel on it for the Ntribuoho Presby
congregation. Rev. Owusu Badu said the building of the Presby chapel by the
late Mr. Addai, who was also a native of Ntribuoho was inspired by the fact
that it was his prayer to evangelize the people of Ntribuoho.
Delivering the
sermon at a special church service preceding the dedication and naming of the
Ntribuoho chapel, the Asante Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Amfo Akonnor admonished
especially Christians to accept the call of God to help the vulnerable and needy
to bring societal transformation.
He said God expects Christians to be each
other’s keeper by condemning ungodly acts and attitudes, and championing the
cause of the weak.
Rev. Dr. Amfo Akonnor noted that in this era where injustice
has permeated all spheres of life, it behoves Ghanaians to pray persistently
for God’s intervention when denied justice, instead of resorting to the invocation
of curses.
He called on members of the
Presbyterian Church to emulate the gesture of late Mr. Addai and also on Ghanaians
to make peace their hallmark as they prepare for the December polls.
