NMC DIALOQUES WITH JOURNALISTS IN ASHANTI
The National Media Commission says it is concerned about the peace and stability of the country and the role of the media in the country especially in this election year.
The Commission will therefore
ensure the media remain focused and avoid acts that are likely to throw the
nation into chaos.
This came to light, when the Ashanti Regional Media Advisory
Committee of the National Media Commission held a discussion with journalists
in Kumasi on guidelines for political journalism.
A member of the Regional
Media Advisory Committee, Mrs. Adwoa Amankwah who spoke on the topic, “Core
Journalistic Values And Ethics”, called on media practitioners to always seek
to provide the public with information that will enable the electorate to make
intelligent choices during elections.
This she said would require that news
reports are comprehensive, fair, impartial and objective.
Mrs. Amankwah
cautioned media practitioners to avoid activities that may compromise their
integrity as journalists or damage their credibility in order to be effective
in the discharge of their duties.
According to her, media houses must not limit
their political coverage to just campaigns.
Coverage should be extended to
encompass all phases up to and including the declaration of results.
