GYENYASE CATHOLIC CHURCH NOW A PARISH
The Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, Most
Reverend Gabriel Anokye, has asked Ghanaians to work towards a sustainable
peace rather than wait for a particular period like before or during elections
before encouraging adherence to peace. Christians must lead the way by
practicing virtues to impact positively on the larger society.
Most Rev. Anokye
gave the advice during an encounter with journalists on the fringes of a
ceremony at Gyinyase to upgrade the local church to a Parish.
Most
Rev. Gabriel Anokye, performed a tape cutting and unveiling of a plaque to
upgrade Our Lady of Apostles Catholic Rectorate at Gyinyase in the Asokwa
Municipality to a Parish.
He also dedicated and opened a new one-storey temple as well
as consecrate the Alter of the church for use for Mass by the Parish Priest.
The foundation Parish Priest, Very Rev.
Father Alex Mensah Agyemang, was also inducted.
Until now, the
400-member Gyinyase Catholic Church was under the jurisdiction of the Saint
Martin de Porres Parish at Atonsu.
In his inaugural speech, Very Rev. Father
Agyemang assured the worshippers at the Parish that, he would work diligently
to justify the upgrading of the church to a Parish and also edify them to live
righteous lives. He called for the support of all the members to achieve the
mission of the church.
The President of the Parish, Richard Nsiah, noted that
with the current state of the church, the leadership is very determined to
improve on the fortunes of the church with emphasis on the construction of a
basic school, a befitting Mission House as well as creating avenues for church
growth.
He said, with the contribution and support of its members and other
well-wishers, the church built the new temple at a cost of nearly one million
Ghana Cedis.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Archbishop, Most Rev. Gabriel Anokye,
entreated Christians to live lives that can positively influence the circular
society, especially on peace building, at all times, whether in times of
elections or not, since peace is one of the tenets of Christianity.
Most Rev. Anokye described
the temple as a place of peace, comfort and inspiration for anyone in need of
divine intervention and should therefore be readily available to all who run to
God, regardless of their faith.
