ASANTE PRESBYTERY ENTICES ASANTEHENE
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has rallied
Ghanaians to pool together to grow the national economy and bring progress to
the country.
He said everybody should have a part to play in the task of
building a noble Ghanaian. Otumfuo Osei Tutu made the call at a special service
held by the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at the
Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The special service is part of the church’s ‘Mission
to the Palace’ programme, which aims at strengthening relationship between the Presbyterian
Church and the chieftaincy institution. Otumfuo Osei Tutu underlined the need
for everyone to uphold the values of transparency, accountability and
truthfulness.
These virtues should be combined with hard work and tolerance.
The Asantehene added that the expectation is that Ghanaians will live up to
their civic responsibilities as citizens in the New Year. He encouraged the
Presbyterian Church of Ghana to provide the right leadership to purge the
society of corrupt practices and anything toxic to the moral health of the
society.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu asked the church to support him with prayers so that
he would have the courage to do what is right in the performance of his
traditional duties. He thanked God for his abundant mercies and blessings in
the past year, adding that
whatever modest impact he had made had come through God's grace.
Otumfuo Osei
Tutu said he had over the
years depended on God and would continue to depend on Him for direction as he
works to bring progress to the people of Asanteman.
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the
Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Professor J.O.Y. Mante charged Christians to lead the crusade against moral decay and
injustices in society. He said the Ghanaian society had become corrupt as a
result of greed, selfishness, lust and materialism, and there was the need for
people who claimed to be followers of Jesus Christ to fight these societal
vices by deeds and words.
He said Christianity had come under severe criticism
as a result of the inability of most of them to show concern about what happens
in their environment. Rt. Rev. Prof. Mante spoke of the unwavering resolve of the Presbyterian Church to
scale up the spread of the gospel to give confidence and bring salvation to the
society.
