PASTOR OBED, TWO OTHERS GRANTED BAIL

The Head Pastor of the Christ Cosmopolitan Incorporated Church, Reverend Dr. Obed Obeng Addai, popularly known as Pastor Obed, and two others have been granted a police inquiry bail by the Asokwa Police Division in the Ashanti region following a complaint lodged by a Cameraman of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, Victor Vanderpuye of physical assault on him by the suspects during GBC’s coverage of a fire outbreak at the premises of the church yesterday.

The two other suspects in the case are Pastor Daniel Boateng, Associate Pastor of the church and one Sheriff Lawal. Speaking to our Correspondent, the Asokwa Divisional Commander, ACP Michael Awuley, said the suspects were granted bail after writing their Caution Statement to the Police following their arrest yesterday. They were asked to produce their witnesses just as the GBC Cameraman was also requested to do this morning to allow for investigations to unravel circumstances of the suspected assault towards prosecution.

ACP Awumey said the police has retrieved the damaged GTv Sony Camera with identification number PSW Seven-Zero which was also seized by the attackers in the heat of the assault. The GBC has already produced two witnesses who have subsequently provided their Statements with video and pictorial evidence to back the complaint of assault.

Meanwhile, the Asokwa Divisional Commander has disclosed that Pastor Obed Obeng Addai has also officially lodged a counter complaint of physical assault against Mr. Vanderpuye.

It would be recalled that disgruntled Pastors and members of the Christ Cosmopolitan Incorporated Church headed by Reverend Dr. Obed Obeng Addai, violently attacked a news crew of the GBC yesterday afternoon which had been dispatched to cover a fire outbreak within and around the premises of the church located near the Ashanti regional offices of the Ghana Revenue Authority at Dadiesoaba. They insisted that the news crew needed to obtain a prior permission from the church before covering the wildfire and therefore violently attacked the cameraman, forcefully took away the Camera, damaged it before taking it away.
