OVER THREE THOUSAND GRADUATE FROM UEW, KUMASI

The Chairman of the Governing Council of University of Education, Winneba and Omanhene of Enyan-Maim Traditional Area, Okofo Amaoko Abondam says the growing demand for the services of the university has serious implications for the physical infrastructure and human resources available on its campuses.

He noted that the university needs to match the growth in student numbers and technical programmes with appropriate financial and material support.

However, the institution is constrained in meeting its target because of inadequate financial resources. Okofo Amaoko Abondam expressed the sentiment at the April/May sessions of the 19th Congregation of the University at the College of Technology Education, in Kumasi.

A total of three thousand, 847 students comprising 80 Masters’ and three thousand, 218 Diploma and Bachelors’ degrees graduated.

Also graduated were the 233 Diploma in Education students who pursued their programme at the Cape Coast Polytechnic through the collaborative efforts of the university and Cape Coast Polytechnic.

Okofo Amaoko Abondam said over the last two decades, the University of Education Winneba has established itself as a competitive and high quality institution for the training of professional educators, researchers and community service providers in technology and related sciences.

In this respect, the university has positioned the College of Technology Education in Kumasi as the premier institution for training professionals in technology education and related fields in the West Africa sub-region.

This notwithstanding, the university is constrained in meeting its target because of inadequate financial resources.

Okofo Amaoko Abondam commended the support and funding by the Government through the GETfund, donors, development partners and other benefactors.

He however pleaded for more resources to be made available to the university to expand on its facilities and infrastructure for the purposes of continuing to train more top class professional educators.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, said the university offers the opportunity to students to master the professional knowledge, skills and competencies they require to position them well to fulfill their mandate as professionals.

He advised the graduands to live by the virtues of honesty and accountability, discipline, humility, loyalty and be good ambassadors of the university.
